LED technology is often heralded as the future of lighting – and for good reason. LEDs are easy to produce, generate very little heat, and are super energy efficient, using only one-eighth of the power of traditional bulbs and less than half that of fluorescent lights. Now our favorite avant-electronics company, Philips, has come out with some stunning new designs for interactive LED lightbulbs.

Inspired by the thought “Why couldn’t changing a room’s ambience be as simple as switching on the TV?’” Philips has come up with a variety of ways to adjust the color, brightness and tone of a bulb with simple, intuitive hand gestures, such as touching or twisting. The “Simplicty” LED bulbs are so nicely designed (with a wide variety of interesting shapes to choose from) that it eliminates the need for any sort of lamp covering.

These LED bulb designs are part of the larger Philips Sense & Simplicty design project, which the company haas been working on for the past year to demonstrate the power of simplicity-led design in driving innovation.

Quiet Revolution Ltd develops and supplies elegant renewable energy solutions, especially small wind products optimised for use at the point of energy demand. Their goal is to promote and enable wind energy as a key technology to renewable and distributed energy generation and microgeneration.

That is very interesting, QR is also available in a unique model capable of creating a striking visual display that is part artwork, part renewable energy device, part communications medium.

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) embedded in each of its three S-shaped blades fire in sequence as the blades rotate, painting a video screen that appears to hang in the air. This full colour and motion image is clearly visible day and night. Their display can be used either as a temporary installation at a high profile event or as a permanent feature. Early customers for quietrevolution display are mostly city councils across the UK attracted to this unique means of communicating with the local community on climate change and its solutions.

Each bion, measuring approximately 4x3x2 ½ inches is an synthetic “life-form” fitted with an audio speaker, blue lights (LED’s), and multiple sensors. The bions are suspended by fine gage wire connected to panels that are attached to the ceiling. When installed the panels form clusters of bions arranged at different elevations. Each bion has the ability to communicate with the others and with viewers that enter the space.

When a viewer approaches the installation space she will witness a dynamic array of blips of sound and blue light emanating in cloud like patterns from all parts of the room. She notices that the source of the light and sound come from hundreds of small organic shaped forms called bions . The bions are communicating, unaware of the approaching visitor.

The SolarCap system consists of modular, self-contained lighting devices that can be used for decorative or traffic flow purposes – powered only by solar energy. These unique devices incorporate the newest “EnergyCache” technology for energy storage, instead of the high maintenance rechargeable batteries that are currently used in solar deviced. Unlike batteries which must be changed every two-three years and can not tolerate environmental extremes, EnergyCaches enable SolarCap lighting to be used i any environmental without maintenance for more than 10 years with a wide operating temperature range of -25 – 60 degree C.

During daylight hours, the tiles use solar cells to capture energy from the sun that is than converted to electricity and storef using SolarCap’s EnergyCaches to automatically turn on soft light emiting diode (LED) lighting in the evening. Full charge takes about one hour under direct sunlight and up to eight hours in shady or indirect lighting conditions. The light will stay on for up to 12 hours with fully charged EnergyCaches.

Available in six colours, user can arrange SolarCap light emitting tiles in any imaginable shape or space to achieve a variety of drsired effects for residential or commercial applications in high-traffic or isolated areas. They can be easily installed just like a standard brick or tile on horizontal or vertical surfaces.
