The 72 x 160-foot LED wall at the center of the new Cowboys Stadium is certainly impressive enough when it’s showing game highlights or concert footage, but no giant screen ever truly earns its credentials until it’s been put to some real use: playing video games. Thankfully, Jonas Brothers video director Steve Fatone somehow pulled himself away from concert preparations to do just that earlier this week, and apparently became the first person to ever play Xbox 360 on the display in the process. As you can see above and in the gallery below, the two certainly seem to be made for each other, although it looks like the controller can get a tad touchy if you stray too far while trying to play it.

Show Partners, the company responsible for engineering and operations in collaboration with its lighting vendor, CYM Lighting, of Palm Springs, CA, chose to use Element Labs’ Versa TUBEs. Both Artistic Director Chris Runnells and Assistant Artistic Director Justin Garrone thought that the Versa TUBES would work well as one of the main design elements of the new shows set. They then passed the idea on to scenic designer Tim Saunders of Broadcast Design International, who incorporated the TUBEs into the design concept.

Over 500 Versa® TUBEs are built in a semicircular array in 13 bays with the TUBEs stacked horizontally. “Twelve of the bays work together as one large video wall,” Garrone explains. “It serves as a background during play to help anchor each round using color as well as texture to heighten the dramatic intensity of game play.”

For example, when a player chooses to bet all their money, they are said to have gone ‘All In.’ “When that happens, we’ve designed red textured moving content for the wall that swoops into the wall to punctuate the tension of that moment,” Garrone explains. “The thirteenth bay stands alone, so we use it to backlight a large Mansion logoed column in the upstage right center.” read more at project page

Rubik’s Revolution contains at least six built-in games that feature light, sound and voice effects with numerous ways to play and multiple levels waiting to be unlocked. Ideal for puzzle lovers from 5 to 105, the new electronic cube offers not only individual play, but also exciting multiplayer gaming. Its six core games include: Light SpeedTM, Rapid RechargeTM, Pattern PanicTM, Cube CatcherTM, Code CrackerTM, and Multiplayer MadnessTM.

“Rubik’s Revolution is truly innovative. It’s rare that a follow-up can match or even surpass the original in respect to creativity, game play, and fun, but Techno Source has developed a product that achieves this feat,” says Jim Silver, editor-in-chief of Toy Wishes magazine. “They’ve kept the key ingredients in that it’s simple to play, but extremely challenging. Anyone with a competitive streak simply won’t be able to put it down.”
The show consisted of two table designs, ‘pong table’, and the ‘roulette table’

Pong table – the pure white table made of the corian® can, at the flick of a switch, transform itself into the competitive field of ping pong, allowing you to play Pong at your table. Inspired by the first generation computer designers that started the IT revolution in their bedrooms, ‘pong table’ plays homage to those early video games.

Roulette table – the luminous electric dining table (LED) combines the elegance and translucency of corian® with the international sophistication. Roulette game plan is incorporated into the table by means of an illuminated map. The lamp above the table reveals an inverted roulette wheel, the rolling ball of which is represented by moving lights circumnavigating the outer edge.
via: designboom

LoopScape, by Ryota Kuwakubo, is a game for 2 players with wireless controllers. It is a very classic shooting game. But instead of battling on a flat screen, you have to run around the cylindrical LED screen to follow your spaceship. Another consequence of having a 360° is that once your missile is fired, it will fly round and round until it hits something: hopefully it will hit your opponent’s rocket but you might also get shot down by your own missile if the enemy manages to avoid it.

TileToy is a modular, electronic game prototype for tangible LED game tiles. TileToy brings the flexibility inherent in digital software to a physical tile that people can touch and interact with. By arranging the electronic tiles, players can engage themselves in various kinds of game play, ranging from fast-paced arcade style games to puzzle an learning games.

The tiles are plastic cases approximately 2″ square. The main inspiration for the look and feel comes from the heyday of the LED, when plastic hand-held games ruled the gaming world. This retro-look is fused with a more modern minimal design. The minimalism enhances the magic of cordless boxes that simply communicate with each other. In TileToy, technology is sealed within the design. The interaction is based on tactile experience where no user manual is needed.

The re-programmable and constantly updated graphical information on each tile is displayed with a LED matrix system. The screen displaying the information is an endlessly versatile surface for updated visual communication. Each tile is controlled individually and can be used to transmit information on its own or in groups of several tiles. The assembled tiles transmit wirelessly their individual position in relation to each other and based on that changing information, a central computer, or a dedicated tile runs the different applications.
