Philips will unveil the world’s first LED replacement for the 75-watt incandescent light bulb during the LIGHTFAIR International trade show. The new Philips EnduraLED A21 17-watt light bulb is the first LED equivalent to 75-watt incandescent bulbs, and it will consume 80 percent less energy than its outdated predecessor. The new bulbs last 25 times longer than normal incandescent bulbs, marking another important milestone technological achievement everyday LED residential use. Having been the first company to create a LED to replace the 60-watt incandescent, it’s no surprise that Philips is releasing an even brighter bulb.

“We continue to test the boundaries of LED innovation with exciting products that provide energy efficiency, ambiance and extraordinary reliability,” said Ed Crawford in a press release, General Manager of Lamps for Philips Lighting North America. “Once again we have demonstrated that consumers do not have to wait for quality alternatives to the incandescent or to sacrifice the soft white light they have become accustomed to because LED can deliver all the benefits without compromising quality.”

LED technology is often heralded as the future of lighting – and for good reason. LEDs are easy to produce, generate very little heat, and are super energy efficient, using only one-eighth of the power of traditional bulbs and less than half that of fluorescent lights. Now our favorite avant-electronics company, Philips, has come out with some stunning new designs for interactive LED lightbulbs.

Inspired by the thought “Why couldn’t changing a room’s ambience be as simple as switching on the TV?’” Philips has come up with a variety of ways to adjust the color, brightness and tone of a bulb with simple, intuitive hand gestures, such as touching or twisting. The “Simplicty” LED bulbs are so nicely designed (with a wide variety of interesting shapes to choose from) that it eliminates the need for any sort of lamp covering.

These LED bulb designs are part of the larger Philips Sense & Simplicty design project, which the company haas been working on for the past year to demonstrate the power of simplicity-led design in driving innovation.

Philips Research intends to impress the visitors at this year’s IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) with a world-first demonstration of promotional jackets and furniture featuring its innovative Lumalive technology. Lumalive textiles make it possible to create fabrics that carry dynamic advertisements, graphics and constantly changing color surfaces. The Philips stand in Hall 22 will act as a showcase for the Lumalive textile products that will be worn by Philips’ hostesses and embedded into booth furniture of the Future Zone.

Lumalive fabrics feature flexible arrays of colored light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fully integrated into the fabric – without compromising the softness or flexibility of the cloth. These light emitting textiles make it possible to create materials that can carry dynamic messages, graphics or multicolored surfaces. Fabrics like drapes, cushions or sofa coverings become active when they illuminate in order to enhance the observer’s mood and positively influence his/her behavior.

Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) – will first show Philips Intuos Multi-die LED technology that promises a breakthrough in accent lighting at Light+Building, to be held in Frankfurt from 23 to 27 April 2006. This new technology enables the creation of mini‑spotlights for accent lighting with perfectly controlled and reproducible color adjustment. The result gives uniform, consistent lighting that is far superior to what has up to now been possible with LED technology.A key feature of the Philips Intuos Multi-die LED technology is 100% color mixing within the secondary optics of the luminaire itself.

Thanks to this inherent 100% color mixing, the Intuos Multi-die LED technology creates an enhanced, homogeneous spot effect with no disturbing color shadows, for example behind objects moving through the light beam. Objects illuminated by white light give a uniform color impression with good color rendering (CRI), resulting in an attractive display presentation.

This consistent lighting is an especially important benefit in multi-spot arrangements. Using the Philips Intuos Multi-die LED technology these create perfectly uniform colored lighting and tunable white light with a high CRI, which is ideal for decorative and accent applications such as wall washing, alcove lighting and premium displays.
